The Hidden Architecture Behind The Pitt’s ER Set
Production Designer Nina Ruscio explains how the ER set in The Pitt was designed to feel universal while still carrying architectural history and emotional meaning. The columns help suggest an older hospital structure beneath the renovation — and also work as a metaphor for the emergency department as the foundation holding up the hospital. #ThePitt #ProductionDesign #SetDecoration #DecoratingPagesPodcast

Half Man Production Design: Mood Boards, Sketches and Visual Research
Before the sets of Half Man were built, the design started with mood boards, concept drawings, and hand sketches. In this clip from Decorating Pages, Production Designer Emer O’Sullivan talks about creating mood boards for Half Man and discovering that her references were closely aligned with director Alex’s mood boards — even sharing some of the same images. Kim Wannop and Emer also discuss the value of hand drawings in production design and how those early visual tools help define the emotion, palette, texture, and tone of a series before construction begins. This is a look at the design process behind Half Man — from reference imagery to concept sketches to fully realized sets. In this interview, Cabot discusses his long creative relationship with Bill Lawrence, going back to Spin City and Scrubs, and how that history helped shape the world of Rooster. The team breaks down the design of Ludlow College, the massive Warner Bros. stage builds, the neo-Gothic architecture, the Elizabeth Stoddard Student Center, Walt’s office, the diner, the bar, the steam room, and the challenge of making California feel like an East Coast college town in the fall. The Wallpaper Detail That Made Half Man Feel Real | Emer O’Sullivan Production Design
How Half Man Used Wallpaper to Tell Story Half Man Production Design: The Bedroom Wallpaper Detail Emer O’Sullivan on Designing Lived-In Bedrooms for Half Man The Discontinued Wallpaper That Helped Shape Half Man Description: In this clip from Decorating Pages, Half Man Production Designer Emer O’Sullivan talks about one of those perfect production design finds: the wallpaper behind Niall’s bed. The wallpaper was already there in the location, a discontinued blown vinyl with raised texture, and Emer used a taupe color to wash the room down without removing all the warmth. The result is a bedroom that feels lived-in, faded, emotional, and completely specific to the world of Half Man. Kim Wannop and Emer also discuss Laurie’s bedroom, pattern, feminine detail, and how built sets can still feel deeply real when the textures are right. How Half Man Transformed a Gritty Warehouse Into a Set in 8 Days
How do you turn a gritty warehouse into a finished set in only 8 days? In this clip from Decorating Pages, Half Man Production Designer Emer O’Sullivan talks about the transformation from location photo to sketch, rendering, construction, paint, flooring, suspended ceiling, lighting, and set dressing. Kim Wannop reacts to the scale of the work, and Emer reveals that the team completed the full transformation in just 8 days — including construction, paint, dressing, flooring, ceiling, and getting lighting integrated into the space. This is the kind of production design work that makes the world feel real on screen, even when the audience has no idea how fast it had to happen.
